Richard Wallrath Educational Foundation and Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program
Richard “Dick” Wallrath has invested nearly $5.5 million in the young people of the Texas 4-H program. This level of giving makes Dick Wallrath the all-time largest individual donor in the 62-year history of the Texas 4-H Youth Development Foundation. His name will echo in perpetuity, thanks to his generosity. Many communities, the Lone Star State, and this country will be a better place to live, work and raise their families as a result of his support and investment in the young people of Texas.
Established in 2006 by the Richard Wallrath Educational Foundation, 390 $10,000 scholarships have been awarded to Texas 4-H members, to-date, who excel in academics. Recipients are selected based on academic performance and active 4-H involvement. Not only does Mr. Wallrath’s generosity run deep for 4-H, but he also awards the same number of scholarships to the Texas FFA program.
Beyond his scholarship support, Mr. Wallrath was the lead donor for establishing the first ever permanent Texas 4-H State Headquarters in 2009. He served on the Texas 4-H Foundation Board from 2003 – 2006. In 2006, he was named a Lifetime Honorary Trustee to the Texas 4-H Foundation Board.
Beyond the scholarships and program support, Mr. Wallrath is a top buyer at major stockshows throughout Texas. He is most notable for holding the world record for purchasing the Grand Champion steer at the Houston Stock Show and Rodeo for $601,000. His total commitment to the youth of Texas 4-H and FFA exceeds $16,000,000.
